Antique Cloisonne Ginger Jar Lamp
LAM-014
A lovely, cloisonné enamel lamp! Originally a ginger jar, modified into a lamp, this antique jar likely originates from 19th-century Japan. It has a great palette of marigold-oranges, turquoise-blues and Chinese red. A dragon motif, symbolizing strength, takes center stage, surrounded by sweet little butterflies and floral patterns. Very unique, one of a kind. Although it's Japanese, it also feels English and bohemian.
Cloisonné, is an ancient technique that uses metal wire to form and outline artistic designs, creating different cells or sections (called cloisons) that are filled with vibrant colorful enamel. After the enamel is fired at high temperatures, it becomes a hard, polished, glassy surface. A very “found”, special piece. As a Curator and Interior Designer, these are the timeless qualities I seek – knowing it will transcend time, always in style, never trendy. A treasured find for collectors and enthusiasts of unique and one-of-a-kind pieces.
