Beautiful Rare Louis XIII Table by the Merklen Brothers

TAB-030

An extraordinary side table, made by Merklen Brothers of New York City, renowned furniture makers during the late 19th century. Known for their exceptional craftsmanship, the Merklen Bros. introduced elaborately turned furniture to America, highly influenced by European design, particularly Louis XIII revival. This piece has a casual California essence, perfect for Santa Barbara or Napa Valley style architecture. The table’s defining feature is its dramatic double spiral canted legs, an incredibly rare and masterfully executed detail that instantly captures the eye. This open-twist design is the kind of woodworking skill that is virtually impossible to replicate today. The tabletop has a spiral rope molding around the apron that mirrors the intricacy of the legs, creating a harmonious silhouette. Originally crafted as a library table, this collectable piece dates from the 1890s to early 1900s and has since been adapted into a side table. Its cast brass feet were removed, and the spherical terminations were carefully shaved down. Small holes in the ball feet remain as subtle reminders of its original form, adding to the authenticity and historical character of the piece Inspired by Louis XIII style, this table symbolizes the unique craftsmanship of a bygone era, making it a remarkable find for antique collectors & design enthusiasts. As a Curator and Interior Designer, these are the timeless qualities I seek – knowing it will transcend time, always in style, never trendy. A treasured find for collectors and enthusiasts of one-of-a-kind pieces that bring unique style and personality to your home.
