French Louis XV Style Fauteuil
CHA-016
A very sexy, classic, French fauteuil armchair, reflecting the Louis XV Rococo style with its elegance and fluid form. The antique chair rests on cabriole legs that terminate in scrolled feet, while the frame is richly carved detailing along the crest rail, arms, and apron, with scroll motifs and floral accents. The frame has a beautifully worn paint and glaze finish, it’s a light earthy hue with layered depth and character. The open back splat, with its curving lines & refined silhouette, gives it a charming architectural quality. It has a rush seat, the seat cushion and padded arms are richly upholstered in a highly desirable, luxurious leopard print velvet, a must have for all fashionistas. This type of cut velvet textile is getting harder and harder to find with limited availability & demanding price points, upwards of $1,000/yd. (with two yard minimums.) The textile is most likely made by Old World Weavers, founded by Iris Apfel and her husband Carl. It’s quite like “Tigre”, which may have been produced to mimic this fabric. It has a luxurious thick corduroy texture.
While the antique chair provides comfort, it is best suited as a decorative accent piece, ideal for placement in a foyer, hallway, or as a secondary chair to complement a room. Both stylish and versatile, this fauteuil brings a touch of European charm and character to any interior. It’s beautiful in every way!
