Napoleon III Gilt Bamboo Stool
BEN-001
This piece is particularly special because it was originally placed by legendary interior designer Michael S. Smith in actor Jim Belushi’s Brentwood, California estate. Smith is one of the most authentic and respected talents in the design industry today, known for blending European classicism and American modernism. His A-List clients include the White House for America’s 1st black President & First Lady, Barack & Michelle Obama, and a roster of other high-profile individuals like Steven Spielberg, Cindy Crawford, Dustin Hoffman, George Clooney, Harrison Ford, and Rupert Murdoch. He’s known for designing for Hollywood heavyweights and political figures. Early on, he apprenticed under the tutelage of legendary antiques dealer Gep Durenberger and iconic designer John Saladino, prior to opening his interior design firm, Michael S Smith Inc and creating Jasper furniture and fabrics (sold exclusively to the trade.) His work layered and tailored bridging classical European influences with California casual elegance. Smith’s projects reflect a deep knowledge of art history and architecture, resulting in interiors that feel both timeless and deeply personal.
This stylish giltwood stool features a plush terracotta-colored suede seat, trimmed with brass nail head detailing. The base is crafted in a faux bamboo style with a rich gilt finish, showcasing a turned central finial and cross-stretchers that add both structural integrity and decorative appeal. The overall design draws influence from late 19th-century Aesthetic Movement forms, combining refined craftsmanship with an exotic flair. If you enjoy a story with great provenance, this is for you!
